My name is Ryan Huff and I am a professional technologist, an amateur bodybuilder, a martial artist and an all around fitness junkie. I’m not a common combination of characteristics; both geek and jock – I am just the perfect combination of me.
I come from a place not well known to many called, Sidney Ohio – a small, rural mid-western community. As you might think, my profession is in scare supply where I live – so I’ve often taken to freelancing and independent contracting. Currently, I operate a small consulting firm (http://rthconsultants.com) in addition to maintaining traditional employment in the information technology industry. I’ve considered relocating to a more metro-centric locale but those decisions are never easy; if I recognize the right opportunity I imagine I would.
I love information, specifically I thrive on learning; I like to challenge myself and think of creative solutions to complex problems. I am a developer; I need to create, invent and innovate – these are the things that make me tick and provide me with fulfillment.
My favorite non-religious passage comes from, “The Art of War” by Sun Tzu; specifically from the section titled, “Attack by Stratagem“.
4. The rule is, not to besiege walled cities if it can possibly be avoided. The preparation of mantlets, movable shelters, and various implements of war, will take up three whole months; and the piling up of mounds over against the walls will take three months more.
5. The general, unable to control his irritation, will launch his men to the assault like swarming ants, with the result that one-third of his men are slain, while the town still remains untaken. Such are the disastrous effects of a siege.
6. Therefore the skillful leader subdues the enemy’s troops without any fighting; he captures their cities without laying siege to them; he overthrows their kingdom without lengthy operations in the field.
